Wheelie Bin Storage – Disguising An Ugly Bin

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Wheelie bins have become a necessary, but ugly, aspect of waste disposal in our homes. They are very useful but dont look particularly appealing, especially the larger versions. How then, can you camouflage this useful monster in between collection days? Here, we will discuss a number of winning methods of storing the dimensions of the bin or accommodate multiple bins.

Have you considered a shed for the bins?

It is also possible to install a shed that is purpose built for the bin. These sheds are slightly higher than the bin, to allow for the lid to be raised and have an access door at the front of the structure. As with the permanent screen, these sheds can be designed to suit several bins or a number of sizes. These sheds can be made from wood or metal to suit your specifications.

Sheds for wheelie bins should if possible be built on a concrete floor ” this will make cleanups of spills much easier.

Can you build your own?

Deck Benches for Functional decking

Monday, March 30th, 2009

There are many accessories you can put on your deck to make it appear better looking. But have you thought about how you can make it look larger and more functional that it really is? Deck benches are all you need then! These are just like your outdoor benches situated inside the porch. Building it is just so easy you can go about your usual DIY stunt. Put on your goggles and safety wears, pull out your tool box and hammer out!

One of the best ways of making a number of benches inside your porch or deck, especially with a very limited space, is by doing it built-in. Doing so will make your deck look spacey and real large than what it really is. This type of deck benches are really very necessary if you love entertaining right in the comfort of your home.

Building built-in benches is easy as you don’t need to really build the entire bench. You also have the deck for support so the figure of the bench is all that’s left for you to complete. This type of bench building is also so much inexpensive as the use of the deck where you build it in will become a decrease in the budget.

About My New Stainless Steel Compost Pail

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

I’ve had my EZ grip stainless steel compost pail for about a week now and I have to say, I could not be more pleased.

I have always considered myself fairly eco-friendly, and I’ve had a compost pile in the yard for quite some time now, but up until I bought this thing, I’ve been stuck with trying to remember to take out the fruit peelings and coffee grounds as soon as I was done with them.

For a while, we attempted to use a plastic container on the counter, but it invariably started to smell horrible and we ended up with a nasty fly mess, so that ended as quickly as it started.

Now at long last however, I think I have discovered the solution.

This elegant little compost pail fits right on my (always spotless, of course) kitchen counter and can hold up to a week’s worth of kitchen scraps before its full. All the while, because of its filter, it doesn’t smell! To make things much better, because it is stainless steel, I don’t have to worry about it getting knocked off the counter and cracking, unlike that ugly old plastic bucket.

Beware of these poisonous flowers

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Poisonous plants and flowers are everywhere and they are often difficult to recognize. This can be bad for our kids who are the usual victims of plant poisoning.

To help readers in this matter, the third part of my series contains a small list of poisonous plants and flowers that you should be wary of. If you have any of these plants at home or in your garden, fence them off or get rid of them fast. Teach children not to eat plants or flowers. These simple measures could save your child’s life.

The name Parietaria judaica may not sound familiar to you but it’s time you know what it does. This plant causes asthma and skin allergies. The plant has pink or red hairy stems, green leaves and small white or pink flowers.

This weed is often found in the coastal areas of Australia, the United Kingdom and North America. It’s common on roadsides and in cracks of buildings. Because of its bad effects, the plant is called sticky weed or asthma weed.

Interpretations of 19th Century Carriage Clocks

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Abraham Louis Breguet invented and sold the first “traveling” clock in 1798 to General Napoleon Bonaparte in Paris, France, just before he left for the Egyptian campaign. There are companies that produce authentic reproductions of not only Mr. Breguet’s original Carriage Clocks, but also those of many of the great clock makers of the early eighteen hundreds.

Traveling clocks were initially designed for travelers to use as a time piece while traveling in carriages drawn by horses. It was essentially a portable clock. The design of the original version of this particular clock was a spring driven mechanism that was encased with a metal frame and a glass setting. For ease in carrying, there was a handle located on the top of the clocks. The clocks had to be wound with a key about once every eight days.

The original clocks were spring-driven and contained in a metal case with a glass window in order for the owner to be able to view the clock face. A top mounted handle provided a way for anyone to easily carry the clock. Owners simply had to wind the clock with the key that was provided, and the clock would run for approximately eight days. Some had chimes or music that played to mark the hour. Others contained a bell that rang loudly to mark the passage of time.

Some Unique Vegetable Gardening Styles

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Each gardener has his own set of traits that make him, or her fit for distinct styles. The key to a successful maintenance of your organic vegetable garden is to recognize yourself and the way that is most acceptable for you. Yet there are plenty of types of gardening, which you can choose from so here are a few for your consideration.

Residential Gardening

This is one of the common ways, suited for fresh starters, who are not very prepared to produce vegetables for commercialized purposes. The main purpose for doing this is to grow and provision the family with a frequent source of vegetables and at the same time it decorates one’s own garden. This does not demand too much space and can also be cultivated in window sills, balconies and other small areas that have sufficient light supply that are easy to monitor and at the same time, easy to sustain and free from pests. One of the best components about this sort of style is that it helps a beginner gardener to develop his skills and choose the next improved style, according to his individual wish.

Koi Feeding – Give them the Best

Friday, March 27th, 2009

How fast your Koi grow is a direct result of how much they eat. How much they eat is the result of several things including how many fish you have in the pond, the quality of the pond and water temperature as well as the genetic background of the fish themselves.

For good health and growth Koi need food that has a balanced amount of fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Sounds just like us. The right diet is key to their good health.

The type of food and the amount to feed them will depend on the size of the Koi. The smaller fish need food in a size they can eat, while the larger fish will do just fine with larger pieces. If you have the usual mix of smaller and larger fish then you will have to make sure there is something for each. Make sure the smaller don’t get left out.

To insure proper nutrition I recommend commercial food. This comes in two types. You can choose either a floating food or one that sinks to the bottom. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. The sinking food takes advantage of the Koi’s natural bottom feeding characteristic. But with this you’ll miss out on watching them eat. This type of food lasts longer because it is formulated to be less effected by cold water.

Your Ultimate Guide to Lawn Care and Weeding Effectively

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Removing weeds is one lawn maintenance chore that most people cannot stand, getting down on the ground and pulling out weeds may not be your idea of a swell time, but it is necessary and will help keep your lawn looking its best. Like all plants weeds too need sunlight, soil and nutrition to sustain. Regrettably weeds love your lawn and want to dominate it by growing everywhere even if you have used landscape fabric as a means of protection.

Regrettably, weeds do not know how to play fair and want the grass all to themselves and even after you have used landscape fabric, you may still have weeds. cutting the lawn surely helps but you are still leaving behind their roots. This is where you will need to get down on the ground and begin pulling weeds up by, you guessed, it, their roots.

When removing weeds, you should: Wear gloves, hat, and a long sleeve shirt to safeguard yourself from the sun and from toxic plants you may find. Take a plastic bag with you where you would put all the weeds which you remove, or else if you leave them in the lawn, the seeds would distribute its growth once again. When you pull out the weeds, pull them from the roots or else they would re-grow. If you find a tough remove weeds, which is difficult to pull, dig the ground a bit and then try again.
