A Simple, Yet Effective Solution To Decorating A Babys Room

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

If youre like most expecting mothers, youve probably got a couple of months until the baby arrives, but you havent started decorating the nursery yet. Maybe youve got a few good ideas, or themes in mind, but no idea how to move forward. It may even be that due to the economic circumstances we live in, money could also be an issue. Whether youre struggling for ideas, or working on a tight budget, wall decals and lettering are great options for creating a unique and creative nursery. Most of the time, youll want to start with a central theme. It could be nursery rhymes, jungles, farm animals, or a princess theme. Whatever your theme may be, you want to start by creating your palette by painting the walls in a color that matches the theme youve chosen. If youre a renter, dont despair, you can leave the walls as they are, and simply choose vinyl lettering colors to match your theme. Once your walls are the color you want, you can proceed by choosing some figurines, toys, and the bedding to match the theme. At this point, you may think that the room is almost complete, but there are many more things you can do inexpensively to kick it up a notch. One way to take your nursery room design to the next level is by utilizing some vinyl graphics and letters. This could include a variety of graphics like animals, cars, shapes, polka dots, stars, etc. The great thing about using vinyl lettering for some wall graphics is that they are fully customizable. You choose the size, graphic, color, etc. Adding cute little vinyl graphics to match your theme is a quick way to add some personality to the walls of the nursery without breaking your budget. There are some great ideas for nursery rooms using vinyl graphics. These include a variety of lovable animals that can be purchased in coordinating colors and multiple sizes. Some vinyl companies give you the option to choose to have these animals done facing the opposite direction. With this, you can have an assortment of vinyl wall animals jumping all around your new baby’s room and it won’t break your decor budget. Another creative way to add some charm to the walls of the nursery is by adding alphabet letters, and numbers. Because your child will spend a good amount of time in his or her room over the next months and years, the alphabet and numbers not only beautify the room, but are functional as well. Gazing at the letters and numbers will give your child a jump start when it comes to learning to count and read. Another great component of a nursery should be some lettering, to include a favorite quote, childrens song, or nursery rhyme. You could even chose to add a monogram with your childs initials above the head of their crib. Many vinyl lettering companies out there, including Wall Stamps Company, sell theme based vinyl lettering kits. You can get kits for Princess themes, Soccer, Farm Animals, etc. These kits are inexpensive, easy to apply, and will go a long way to helping you create the personalized dcor your nursery deserves.

What is a Portable Greenhouse?

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Portable greenhouses can be very beneficial to those who already have large gardens established or for those just beginning to show an interest in growing fruits, plants, and vegetables. These greenhouses often come in kits and can be put together in less than a couple of hours depending on the size of the structure. Portable greenhouse kits can be as large as a regular outdoor shed or as small as a tiny bookcase.

Another perk is that because the structure isn’t permanent you can move it wherever you need it to be. If one area of your yard receives more sunlight or if you need certain plants to receive more shade you can move them anywhere and still keep them in an optimum environment. This can also provide you with an opportunity to grow a variety of plants even if they have different requirements.

You can also purchase mini-greenhouses that fit in just about any corner of your house. A lot of gardeners like to use these greenhouse to keep plants indoors during harsh winter months. They are also very handy for starting young seeds. If you’d like to get started in gardening but don’t want to get too carried away a portable greenhouse would be the perfect way to get your feet wet.

Start Geranium

Start cuttings of geraniums now, so that young, well rooted plants will be available for spring bedding. Cuttings can be rooted in sand, vermiculite, or any other commonly used rooting medium. Transplant the rooted cuttings to pots as soon as young roots are formed. Do not transplant the geranium plants into too rich a soil, or you may have trouble with basal rot.

A small greenhouse is a wonderful asset for growing bedding plants. However, many gardeners get by, by starting their seeds and cuttings in a bright window in the home and later transferring them to an electric cable-heated frame. The use of polyethylene film in place of glass for greenhouses and frames will undoubtedly renew interest among amateurs in growing their own bedding plants.

A greenhouse can be covered with polyethylene at a fraction of the cost of glass. Except for the need of replacing the polyethylene at least every other year, it has a number of advantages over glass. Polyethylene permits the entry of ultra-violet light much better than glass, and thus ensures stronger plant growth. It is apt to stand up better in a hail storm than glass, and is much cheaper to replace. A double thickness of polyethylene inflated is recommended.

On the other hand, Liebig, a German scientist, originated using nutrient solutions to study the nutritional requirements of plants in the 1850’s. It was then followed by Sachs in 1860. Knop also did some studies of nutrient elements in water solutions in 1861. They grew plants in nutrients-rich solutions with mineral salts. This does away with the soil as a main requirement for growing crops.

Many researches on the nutritional requirements of plants extended through even until the 1870’s. By 1925, practical applications of hydroponics were being introduced for the vast development in the greenhouse industry.
