Throw Some Shrimp On The Bar-B – Aussie Grills
Originally, a metal fabrication job shop in 1959, MECO (Metal Engineering Corporation) began production of Aussie grills, both charcoal and electric, in 1999. Known as setting the standard in the marketplace with water smoker grills, as well as the electric and charcoal, MECO is located in Greeneville, Tennessee.
Everyone has different needs, and grill makers try to define their niche, so keep these things in mind when you being shopping for a grill:
* Where will you be using the grill?
* Do you have natural gas hook-up, will you be using propane, or are you a charcoal fan?
* How much room do you have?
* Do you want something that blends in, or stands out?
* How much money do I have to spend?
* Do you just need a plain Jane grill or is your ego in control?
* Watch for a good quality product, one that will last forever.
* The importance of BTU’s is overrated, evaluate the complete package.
The three main models are the Bushman, the Bondi and the Monaro. They each have porcelain coated tops and bottoms, a porcelain Flavor Activator, stainless burners, quick start igniter, a steel cart and side-tray for all of your cooking accessories. They also produce the Adventure series, which is a pre-assembled portable gas grill that uses a compact propane tank. It gives about 9 hours of cooking time at 5500 BTUs. You can pack it up easily with it’s adjustable legs.
The Walk-A-bout Series from MECO is a small grill offering the consumer 332 square inches of cooking area and rolling wheels for portability. There are adjustable hood and bowl vents and an adjustable grid for temperature control.
Are you looking for a tabletop model? MECO has that, too! There is 200 square inches to the cooking space, thermostatic controls, runs with 1500 watts and has three positions that include one that is perfect for rotisseries. Feel like you’re smokin’? Aussie covers that, as well, with a 351 square inch surface, heat resistant wood sides and handles, flavor channels directing smoke for the best flavor and steel legs.
Here’s what you need to do to properly care for your grill. Cast iron can be seasoned by using soapy water to wash it. Before you use your grill at the beginning of the season, make sure to remove and dirt, and then clean it again in soap and water. You may want to use a wire brush occasionally to prevent rusting, but never use an oven cleaner because that is way too corrosive. It’s really as simple as that. The Flavor Activator replaces the need for ceramic bricks or lava rocks.
The Aussie grill line from MECO come in a variety of sizes for portability, individual use, family use, indoor and outdoor kitchen use. You can find this fine line of products at Lowes, Academy Sports & Outdoors and Sportskids Superstore, as well as several other outlets worldwide.
