When Planting A Spring Garden, Use Landscaping Edging To Keep The Garden In Place
La Citta VitaPlanting a garden is a great way to prepare for the spring. Gardening is also a hobby that can be a rewarding way to display your hard work for all to see. The best time to plant bulbs is best done at the end of fall prior to the spring you would like them to bloom. Before beginning your gardening it is necessary to have all of the items you will need for starting the project. You will need seeds or bulbs, a tool for digging, markers, mulch and landscaping edging.
Remember when choosing seeds to read the packet and only purchase the ones that will grow well in an area you intend to use as a garden. If you only have shaded areas, there are plenty of pretty flowers that thrive well in shaded areas. The seeds will need to be planted in containers with good drainage when planting for indoor starts.
Read packets completely to determine if the will be good transplants to be placed in shaded or sunny areas. And take care to not get the packets wet or subjected to moisture before you intend to plant in the containers.
Put soil in the container, lay the seeds on top of soil and cover with a small amount of more soil. The containers should be place in well lit areas such as a window ledge. Turn the containers often to ensure they get sunlight on all areas of the plant.
The seeds will take several weeks to grow beyond the top layer of soil so do not get disappointed and think they are not growing indoors. When spring arrives and you get to plant the seedling outdoors they will be approximately six inches in height.
When spring has finally sprung and it is time to put the plants outdoors. Dig a hole for each plant you have. The hole should be about six inches deep. Remove the plant gently from its container and place in the hole. Refill the hole with dirt previously removed while digging. Spray with a light feed to ensure a good growth.
After all plants have been replanted in permanent area, put markers to identify the plants. After markers are place spread a two inch layer of mulch throughout the entire garden area.
Dig an edge completely around the outside of garden area for placing the landscaping edging. The edging will keep the mulch and flowers from shifting outside of garden and into the yard should a heavy rain occur. Keep the garden free from weeds, watered and given nutrients regularly.
